About Indoor Soccer

Indoor soccer, also known as futsal, is a fast-paced version of the outdoor game played on a smaller, enclosed field. It requires skill, agility, and quick decision-making. The RSL Indoor League follows specific rules that are designed to enhance the gameplay, promote fair competition, and prioritize player safety.

The RSL Indoor Rules

Field and Equipment

The indoor field dimensions may vary slightly, but typically, it is smaller than a regular outdoor soccer field. The surface is made of synthetic turf or hardwood, providing a smoother and faster playing experience. The goals are also smaller in size compared to outdoor goals.

Team Composition

A standard RSL indoor soccer team consists of five players, including a goalkeeper. However, the number of players may be subject to variation depending on the league and age group. Each team must have a minimum of four players to start a match. Substitutions are allowed throughout the game and can be made during play or at designated stoppages.

Duration

A typical RSL indoor soccer match consists of two halves. The duration of each half may vary, usually ranging from 20 to 25 minutes. There is a halftime break of around 5 minutes between the halves. The clock stops during any prolonged stoppages or injuries.

Rules of Play

The RSL Indoor League follows most of the standard soccer rules with a few modifications to suit the indoor environment:

  1. Out-of-Bounds: If the ball goes out of bounds, it is either kicked back into play or returned using the designated boundary lines. There are no throw-ins as in outdoor soccer.
  2. Offside: The offside rule is typically not applied in indoor soccer due to the smaller field size.
  3. Goalkeeper Distribution: The goalkeeper has a time limit to distribute the ball after making a save. The distribution method can vary between leagues, allowing either throwing, rolling, or kicking.
  4. Slide Tackling: Slide tackling is generally not allowed in indoor soccer to reduce the risk of injury. Players must rely on their footwork, positioning, and proper tackling techniques to regain possession.
  5. Fouls and Penalties: Various fouls, such as tripping, pushing, or dangerous play, can result in free kicks or penalty kicks for the opposing team. Accumulated fouls may also lead to penalty shootouts or power plays.

Player Safety

GIRL Studio - Grow Improvise Rise Live prioritizes player safety above all else. The RSL Indoor League enforces strict guidelines to minimize the risk of injuries. Proper footwear, such as indoor soccer shoes or non-marking sneakers, must be worn to ensure good traction and prevent slips on the playing surface. Players are encouraged to wear shin guards for added protection. Moreover, unsportsmanlike conduct, including intentional rough play or dangerous challenges, is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary actions.
